I received an email this week from a listener who suggested we stop asking for donations. “Dear friends Thank you for the beautiful songs …I think that is not right for a messianic radio station even You are asking 3 time,s a day for money. Please trust the Father of Abraham .Isaac and Jacob and don,t ask for money That,s not in the word He will give what you need Matt.6 Bless you.” That’s a fair question. After all, we’ve been running Chavah for 10 years and have never asked for donations until this year. Is it wrong to ask? Here’s my answer: We don’t ask for donations for Chavah. We only ask for donations to Messianic musicians. 100% of the donations go to the musicians; you can see for yourself in our artist distribution posts , which shows the exact dollar figures sent to individual artists. A lot of folks have written in, asking why Chavah won’t play the next song. **UPDATE April 2020: Quickfix: if you're having this issue on iPhone, update your iPhone to iOS 13.4, which includes a fix for this issue. Read on for more details. Q. “Chavah plays a song, then when the song ends, I don’t hear anything. What’s wrong?” A. If you’re on a desktop or laptop, reboot. If you’re on a mobile device like an iPhone, iPad, or Android phone, use the Chavah app: Chavah for iOS , or Chavah for Android . Q. I’m using the Chavah app, but it still only plays 1 song, then stops. A. On some mobile devices, like iPhone, Chavah must be in the foreground (not in the background) and your screen must be on. The problem isn’t with Chavah, but the device you’re using to listen. Chavah uses web standards to play audio, meaning it works fine on laptops, desktops, Windows, Mac, Linux. Listener Greg W. asks, Is there a way to tell what plays at any given time? I know we can request songs, so the programming must be tied to algorithms and lots of techy stuff… I’ve been asked this question often, so it bears a post I can link to in the future. It’s a fair question because in some ways, Chavah acts like traditional AM/FM radio station (song requests!), while in other ways, it acts more like music playlist ala Pandora (song stream for each user). What’s going on? How does Chavah decide what to play? In a nutshell, Chavah chooses songs for you based on your song likes/dislikes, and weaves in live song requests from listeners . Shalom, holy friends and fans of Messiah’s music. I’ve rolled out some new features this week on Chavah that I think you may like. First up, lyrics and tags. Chavah now allows you, the listener, to submit lyrics or tags for a song. To start, click Submit tags for this song : Alternately, click Lyrics and then Submit lyrics for this song: Doing either of these will take you to the song edit page: Here you can type the lyrics for the song, or enter tags for a song. Lyrics can be encouraging to read as they often amplify the Scriptures. It also helps to include English translations for songs have Hebrew, French, or Spanish lyrics. FAQ: What should I do for songs that have Hebrew lyrics? My default stance is to include the English transliteration of the Hebrew, e.g. “Shema Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu” If you’re comfortable with Hebrew, by all means include it in the lyrics, as many of our listeners are also Hebrew speakers: שמע ישראל יהוה אלהינו יהוה אחד If you do type the He...

Shalom friends! Right now when you sign-in to Chavah, you’ll get a scary red message about “persona.org shutting down”: Yikes! Some of you have asked what this means. Well, good news and bad news: The good news is : Chavah is doing great, and certainly not shutting down, of course! Chavah is more popular than ever, with several thousand listeners and a growing library of music for Messiah. The bad news is : the sign-in technology we’re using, Mozilla Persona, is shutting down. What this means is, you won’t be able to sign-in to Chavah after Novermber 30th unless we release the new version of Chavah . The new version of Chavah, Chavah v3, doesn’t use Persona, and will let you sign in with your existing email address. We’re working super hard every day trying to get Chavah v3 done before the November 30th deadline! Bottom line: Chavah will continue working no matter what. Shalom, folks. I received an email from Chavah listener Marie G. this week. She heard a song that started off in Hebrew…then ended in a Christmas song! The song she heard was Marty Goetz - Maoz Tzur / Hark the Herald Angels Sing . It’s a traditional Hanukkah song, Maoz Tzur, blended with the old hymnal, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, the familiar old Christmas hymn. In her letter, which was respectful and reasoned, Marie told me, “…it is difficult to be apart from the world during Christmas time…please don’t play Christmas music on Chavah.” She’s not the first person to tell me this. Every year, it seems, I get letters from folks saying that. The truth is, I’m not playing Christmas music on Chavah. Rather, there are some songs on Chavah that contain music we associate with Christmas, but by themselves contain nothing objectionable. For example, “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” is associated with Christmas, but in itself is a Biblical plea for Messiah’s return. It’s opening lines petition ...

Q. Some songs on Chavah I like, and others I don't. Can I tell Chavah to play more of the ones I like, and less of the ones I don't? A. Yes, Chavah lets you thumb-up songs you like and thumb-down songs you dislike. To thumb-up a song, click the thumb-up icon to the right of the play button: Likewise, to thumb-down a song, click the thumb-down icon. Q. What happens when I thumb-up a song? When I thumb-down? A. Thumbing-up a song will tell Chavah you like that song. She'll play that song, and songs similar to it, more often for you. Thumbing up a song will increase the song's community rank (that number between the arrows). The higher the community rank, the more that song is played for everyone. Thumbing-down a song tells Chavah not to play that song for you. She'll put it on the backburner; she won't play it for you, even if someone does a song request for it. Q. How can I buy the music on Chavah? A. Glad you asked! One of the purposes of Chavah Messianic Radio is to raise the awareness of Messianic music and help out the artists who devote time and resources into serving. To purchase an album, Chavah has the “❤” button on the currently-playing song: Click that “❤” button and you’ll be taken to the artist’s website where you can purchase the music directly from the artists. Q. Can I run Chavah in Firefox? A. No, not at this time. Although Chavah will do her best to work with Firefox, it works poorly on that browser due to technological limitations. Firefox doesn’t support native MP3 audio , the audio format Chavah uses for music streaming. MP3 is a patented audio format, and Mozilla does not wish to pay the licensing fees required to decode MP3s. Because of this, Chavah can’t play music using the native web technologies. It will try to fallback to non-standard technology, but it’s flakey at best. The good news is, Firefox will soon support native MP3 audio . Some time around summer 2013, you’ll see a new version of Firefox that plays MP3 audio. Bottom line: Chavah doesn’t work great in Firefox today. If you want to run Chavah, we recommend Google Chrome . Internet Explorer, Opera, and Safari will also work. Follow-up question: Q. Can I install Chavah as a desktop application? A. Q. Can I install or download Chavah onto my computer, so that I don’t have to use a web browser and go to the website? A. Yes, you can install Chavah to your desktop. Below, select the browser you’re using, and we’ll show you how to install Chavah to your desktop: I’m using Internet Explorer To install Chavah using Internet Explorer 9 or 10, click the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen, then click File->Add site to Start Menu: (On IE 10, it will simply be gear icon->Add site to Start Screen ) You’ll be asked where to create the shortcuts. Q. I don’t see the song request button in Chavah. Where is it? A . It’s the to the left of the play button. Click that button, and then type the name of a song, artist, or album: Click the song you’re looking for, then click the ‘Request’ button: You’re done! Chavah will play the song instantly for you. Other people listening to the station will hear the song request as soon as their current song finishes. (p.s. Don’t like a song that someone requested? Thumb it down. Chavah will play something else for you, and the next time that song is requested, she’ll skip sending it to you.) (p.p.s. Looking for a song, but don’t quite remember the name?
