US recognizes Jerusalem as capital of Israel

Image
It was 50 years ago, on June 7th, 1967, Jerusalem returned to Jewish hands after nearly 2000 years. And today, December 6th, 2017, the President of the United States announced in an historic moment that the United States recognizes Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and will move its embassy to Jerusalem. Israel celebrated by lighting up Jerusalem’s ancient walls with the flag of the US and Israel: And lighting up Jerusalem’s Bridge of Strings with red, white and blue: I just videoed Jerusalem’s Bridge of Strings lit up in Red White and Blue and Blue and White in honor of the historic and just US recognition of #Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel. All countries who value peace, freedom and justice should follow suit. pic.twitter.com/u3hxseDuWw — Michael Dickson (@michaeldickson) December 6, 2017 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu likewise rejoiced, noting the historic moment at hand: We here at Chavah Messianic Radio rejoice, as should everyone who follows the G...

Aviad Cohen has passed away

Image
Friends, I’m saddened to announce that Messianic musician Aviad Cohen has passed away yesterday, according to a Facebook post from his family. I knew Aviad for many years; he contributed his music to Chavah years ago, and before that, I knew him through my younger brother when the two of them met in person by chance in Jerusalem. Aviad produced 4 albums for God, including 3 techno albums and 1 Scripture reading album: Hooked on the Truth Firestarter Good News to Mission Control Scripturesonics Vol. 1: The Good News Aviad’s last album, Scripturesonics, is a stirring Scripture reading album set to orchestral music. It’s my personal favorite. Aviad made big splashes when he, as a conservative Jew and rapper known as 50 Shekel , came to belief in Yeshua as Israel’s messiah . His public conversion made him a target for anti-missionaries and Jews who considered his belief in Yeshua to be a betrayal of Judaism. At the time of this writing, it's not clear how Aviad died. One friend says...

New music: David Abramsky – Revive the Heart

Image
Shalom friends, New music on Chavah Messianic Radio to sweeten your shabbat: David Abramsky – Revive the Heart David found our station via social media and reached out to us to get his music on the station. I gave it a listen and immediately approved it – it’s an beautiful instrumental work featuring Abramsky’s skillful cello and piano. David describes the album like this: In this CD I've grouped the more upbeat tracks near the beginning, and have let the music gradually relax and soothe as you continue to the final track.  I love layering the cello ("Rachel Weeping for Her Children" has six cellos!) and doing a piano duet with me playing all four hands ("Like A River Glorious")!  A classic Messianic tune, "Awake O Israel", is the focus for a fun arrangement--a departure from my more relaxing material.  Many listeners have emailed asking for some solo cello work so this CD contains a collection of four Jewish melodies, all on solo cello.  There's n...

New music: Zola Levitt with Marty Goetz - Faith in the Fire

Image
Shalom Chavah fans, Some new (old!) music on Chavah: Zola Levitt with Marty Goetz – Faith in the Fire I’m please  The late Zola Levitt, who was a pioneer in the Messianic movement and unveiled the Jewish roots of Messiah faith to many Christians through his books, music, and his television show. He was an advocate for Christians celebrating the Feasts back in the 1970s and 1980s. I think many Christians discovered Hebrew Roots and the Messianic Movement because of him. Faith in the Fire is one of several albums Zola created. This one is unique in that he had the inimitable Marty Goetz carry the vocals. I think you all will enjoy this blast from 1994. While Zola passed away in 2006, his ministry lives on through his wife: Levitt.com , where you can purchase Faith in the Fire and Zola’s other albums.

New music: Moshav – Shabbat Vol. 1

Image
Fresh Jewish music on Chavah just in time for shabbat: Moshav is one of the most well-known Jewish music groups in the world. They learned music under the late R. Shlomo Carlebach, made a name for themselves in Israel and subsequently the nations, and they have since produced 10 albums spanning 3 decades. Some of their latest work includes a collaboration with Jewish reggae artist Matisyahu. While Moshav is not Christian or Messianic, they do have a modern sound rich in righteousness and love for goodness, for Israel, for Torah, for shabbat; their music can teach us and enrich us. I consider them a light to the nations.  So, a year or two ago I reached out to Moshav's lead singer, Yehuda Solomon, and asked him if we could play Moshav's music on Chavah Messianic Radio. He graciously replied yes, they'd be honored to have their music played to a Christian and Messianic audience. And now we’re finally making that happen. Give their music a listen and, if you’d be so gene...

New music: Birgitta Veksler – Ana Elech

Image
New Messianic music from Jerusalem to help you enter shabbat: Birgitta Veksler - Ana Elech (Where Will I Go) Birgitta has musical chops! She was a lead singer in an IDF army music band, and she finished in the top 10 in Kochav Nolad, the Israeli version of American Idol. Ana Elech (Where Will I Go) is a collection of ten songs written by Birgitta, inspired by psalms and performed in their original language - Hebrew. The songs reflect the longing for a savior, the Messiah, that is embedded in the heart of the Jewish people. Birgitta hopes that her music will impart a yearning for a more intimate relationship with God. Thanks to our friend Marty Blume for getting Birgitta's music on the station. If you fine Messianic music fans would be so kind, please support Birgitta Veksler by purchasing her music . Enjoy! And an early shabbat shalom to you all.

New feature: Submit lyrics & tags

Image
Shalom, holy friends and fans of Messiah’s music. I’ve rolled out some new features this week on Chavah that I think you may like. First up, lyrics and tags. Chavah now allows you, the listener, to submit lyrics or tags for a song. To start, click Submit tags for this song : Alternately, click Lyrics and then Submit lyrics for this song: Doing either of these will take you to the song edit page: Here you can type the lyrics for the song, or enter tags for a song. Lyrics can be encouraging to read as they often amplify the Scriptures. It also helps to include English translations for songs have Hebrew, French, or Spanish lyrics. FAQ: What should I do for songs that have Hebrew lyrics? My default stance is to include the English transliteration of the Hebrew, e.g. “Shema Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu” If you’re comfortable with Hebrew, by all means include it in the lyrics, as many of our listeners are also Hebrew speakers: שמע ישראל יהוה אלהינו יהוה אחד If you do type the He...
