New music: Yaron Cherniak singles

Shalom friends,

We've added a much of new singles from Yaron Cherniak to the station, hope you enjoy!

The poem "God of Love" was written by an Iranian woman with a Muslim background. A few years ago, she accepted faith in Jesus. Several times she was brought to prison due to suspicions against her by the regime. Of course, in the shadow of such a reality, she is not free to express her beliefs in public. Like many other Iranian-believers, she must stay underground when practicing her faith with other sisters and brothers. This collaboration called, “The Singing Nightingale" was created by Yaron Cherniak and Nafas Zendegani (pseudo name). This is meant to identify with the underground church in Iran and the oppressed community. Zendegani’s poem and Or Saadi dance is a response to the ongoing protest, as well as declaring from personal experience that God is the God of love and not the God of oppression and torture.

This is a new arrangement for a traditional poem (proper name for this kind of poem is Piyut) written by Yehuda Halevi, a Jewish Rabbai and Philosopher from the 10th-11th century.

This performance took place in my home studio in the Judaean Hills together with the artist and songwriter Shai Sol accompanied by Hurdy Gurdy. The lyrics I have written around 10 years ago when my flatmate have shared with me the challenges he have suffered as a believer and his doubts that started to sneak into his heart.
When hearing this, I started writing in my diary, addressing him and telling him [these lyrics].
